The Delight of the Stuffed Pocket for Junk Journals

The Delight of the Stuffed Pocket: A Tiny Treasure Trove

If junk journaling had a secret weapon, it would be the stuffed pocket. More than just a folded piece of paper, this little creation is a magical mix of form and function—designed to hold snippets of your story, tiny works of art, or found treasures waiting to be discovered.

At its heart, a stuffed pocket is exactly what it sounds like: a pocket you attach to a journal page, then joyfully stuff with ephemera. Think vintage tickets, tea-stained tags, stamped mini envelopes, washi-taped scraps, or a folded love note from yesteryear. The joy is in the layers, textures, and delightful surprise of pulling out each piece.

They’re not just pretty—they’re practical. Use them to store journaling prompts, secret messages, or extra embellishments. You can make them from book pages, scrapbook paper, old maps, or even fabric—anything that folds and holds.

So go ahead: layer it, fill it, and let it spill over just a little. A stuffed pocket isn’t just part of your journal—it's a place for hiding treasures and the fuller the better.

Discovering the Charm of Junk Journals: A Basic Overview

Hey there, journaling enthusiasts and creative souls! Today, we're diving into the wonderful world of junk journals—a quirky and imaginative twist on traditional diary-keeping. Imagine a journal that's not just a book of blank pages but a treasure trove of memories, creativity, and recycled wonders!

What Exactly is a Junk Journal?

Think of it as a DIY masterpiece where creativity knows no bounds. Instead of crisp, uniform pages, a junk journal is a mishmash of textures and surprises. It's like crafting a story with bits and bobs from everyday life—old letters, ticket stubs, fabric scraps, and more. Remember those days when you'd make collages out of magazine cutouts? Junk journals take that idea and elevate it to an art form.

 Why Do People Love Them?

Well, for starters, they're personal and unique. Each junk journal is a reflection of its creator's personality and experiences. It's like crafting your own scrapbook but with a twist of artistic flair. Whether you're doodling, painting, or pasting memories onto the pages, it's a therapeutic journey of self-expression. There are so many things that can be done with Junk Journals. My journals are more art journal and glue books than junk journals.

How Do You Make One?

The beauty of junk journals lies in their simplicity and versatility. You gather materials that speak to you—old maps, movie tickets, or even that wrapping paper you saved from a birthday gift. Then, you let your imagination run wild. There are no rules—just pure creativity. It's like putting together a puzzle where every piece tells a story. You don't need a lot of supplies to start. Here is small checklist for supplies to start collecting.

Brown paper bags (can be used or new lunch bags, smaller bags).

Envelopes from junk mail (these can be amazing)

Glue (there are a lot of fancy glues but on a budget you can start with basic white glue)

Copy Paper (for pages).

You can get Elmer's craft glue  and Aleenes tacky glue from Walmart and sometimes Dollar Tree.

Items to use as Ephemera (such as your favorite quotes or sentiments written on paper, ticket stub,

What Makes Them Special?

Imagine flipping through a journal that's not just filled with words, but with textures and surprises. It's like stumbling upon a hidden treasure chest of memories. Each page unfolds like a mini adventure, reminding you of moments big and small. Plus, crafting a junk journal is a journey in itself—a chance to slow down, get crafty, and cherish the little things.

Get Started Today!

So, if you're looking to add a splash of creativity to your journaling routine, why not give junk journals a try? Gather your odds and ends, let your imagination soar, and create something truly special. Whether you're a seasoned crafter or a newbie to the art world, there's a junk journal waiting to be born from your hands.

Remember, it's not just about making something pretty—it's about capturing moments, expressing yourself, and celebrating the joy of creation. Happy journaling! 🎨✂️📔

What is Cottagecore?

To me Cottagecore is a new trend that celebrates the beauty of simplicity. It's cozy and inviting. Best noticed in countryside living.

Vintage clothing, floral patterns, and homes/cottages filled with earthy tones and natural materials, such as freshly picked flowers from the garden in a mason jar. Hummingbird feeders set in front of the kitchen window with the sound of windchimes lightly tinkling. A cottage garden filled with various kinds of wildflowers attracting bees and butterflies. It is a reminder to slow down and just enjoy being.

It is definitely a visual feast meant to invite you to a slower pace and reconnect with nature. Gardening, foraging for treasures at flea markets, thrift stores, and the like. Baking homemade goodies or creating home made gifts and crafts.

Cottagecore has the magical ability to transport you to a different time and place into a world of beauty and serenity.

Escapism....probably but it makes for a beautiful staycation that can recharge and renew frazzled nerves and mental exhaustion.

What is a Gelli Plate and How Does it Work?

 What is a Gelli Plate?

So, what is a gelli plate? Simply put, it's a flexible gel printing plate that allows you to create all sorts of textures, patterns, and designs with ease. Whether you're interested in making cards, wall art, fabric prints, or something else entirely, a gelli plate can help you bring your vision to life. And the best part? You don't need to spend a fortune on a printing press or master complicated techniques – a gelli plate and some paint is all you need to get started!

How Does a Gelli plate Work?

Using a Gelli plate is really easy and most of all it is fun if you love to create. You can literally spend hours creating design after design.

If you are ready to take your art to the next level, I can walk you through a few basic steps to get started. Nothing fancy.

Step 1: Gather your materials. You'll need a Gelli plate, paint, a brayer, and paper (or other surfaces) to print on. You can also gather other materials such as stencils, stamps, and texture plates to add extra layers to your prints.

Step 2: Squeeze out a small amount of paint onto the Gelli plate. Use a brayer to evenly spread the paint across the surface of the plate.

Step 3: Place a stencil or stamp onto the plate, or use your fingers to create texture and designs in the paint.

Step 4: Lay your paper (or other printing surface) onto the plate, and use the brayer to transfer the paint onto the paper. Carefully lift the paper off the plate to reveal your beautiful print!

Step 5: Repeat the process to create multiple prints, or layer different designs and textures to create even more unique prints.

Here is a video courtesy of Gelli Arts that show a basic printing technique to create multiple layer prints.

Once you have created some prints and allowed them to dry you can then use those prints in art journals, junk journals, or other paper craft projects.

This is the plate size I started with. In my research I found it was the size to start with then I could experiment with other sizes.
